Reality Pop Music Shows

This is a public service announcement:

The following post contains my opinions. These opinions you may not like. There is also a few occurences of bad language. Should any of the above be liable to cause offence, best sod off now!

And now, we return you to the scheduled entry.

When is the British public going to learn that all the money they spend voting for these people goes nowhere but to the pockets of the TV production company and those backing the show?

Where does the supposed winner end up usually? With a six month career, one album, and people calling them 'the one that won that TV show'.

Bar the two exceptions I can think of now, they all dwindle into insignificance (thank god!), and in some cases the 'winner' gets totally outclassed by the runner up!

They call this crap a talent contest. Then why is it the talent is hard to find, and would these people really get any chance unless they'd been on such a show. Look at the reaction that Simon Cowell gives to the various performances (my wife watches it so I pick up on the odd bits and bobs). Instead pretending to be a bloody pantomine audience why can't the dumb fucks in the studio see that mostly the guy is right, let alone the people actually booing him at home in their living room. Yeah you know that happens!

Another thing that gets me about this show, the vignettes between performances. This person is doing it for their dead mother, another one for their aunties sick budgie, another because they've had a hard life.

Fuck off!

Here's a tip people, life can be shit, but when TV show producers try to use it to get a 'human interest' angle, that makes me sick! Is the show concept so hollow that this is what you need to do to get bums on seats?

Right, rant over.

On to other matters. As you all know, well you will if you read the last post I made, I've just got hold of a copy of Splinter Cell Double Agent. Well I've got a bit further into the game and despite my initial enjoyment I'm finding myself being somewhat disappointed. I think it boils down to two things.

1) Whilst the game is superb, having played so much splinter cell in the past it doesn't feel that much better than previous games. Yes the double choice idea is good and seems to be well executed and it still has that heart in the mouth sneaking gameplay, but I feel like I've played this many times before.

2) A day before I got this, I played the Rainbow Six LV demo, and absolutely loved it! Why should that make a difference? Well they are very different beasts, and I think it's the RS play style that I prefer. Both are very reqrding, but I think RS is more my thing.

I'll give it more of a play and see what happens though.

On another note, I realised something a couple of days back after talking to a friend I hadn't spoken to for a while; I miss writing about games, really badly!

Having not been an active writer for some time I've had chance to take stock of what it was I enjoyed about it all. Which is being able to write about something you love for other people who share that passion, or at least have a passing interest. To reach an audience that understands what you're saying without having to explain every small detail ( as I often find myself doing to people who have never picked up a controller).

Sadly, unless I manage to find a way to add an extra hour or two into the daily cycle (clock changes notwithstanding) I doubt there is gonna be much chance to get back into it, which is kinda sad for me. But hey, if there are any editors reading this who are interested, be sure to drop me a note ;)

You'll be glad to know this post actually ends now, rather than the essay I wrote last time (sorry about that). As you've realised, I can go on a bit sometimes. Hey it can't be that bad though, you're still reading right.

Where are you going? No, don't touch that Start Menu.

Mind out that's the shut down but...........
