Run: Brain Defragment

There is a very good reason why I never went to Uni. Quite frankly I think my brain is fried! Unfortunately it's taken me another 10 years and alot of money in course fees to understand this!

Ok, so that's a slight exaggeration, but this distance learning stuff isn't easy. I've been doing it now for about three weeks, even using my own study schedule to make sure I put the hours in so that I'm not still doing this course when I turn 40, and picking things up quite readily.

Problem is, it's at home. There is no classroom (except our spare room), no teacher, no other students to flick chewing gum at............errr... I mean to make a fruitful learning environment with. Just distractions. For one, it's PC techinicians course, which means most of my learning is done sat in front of a PC, one connected to the internet, and we all know how tempting it is just surf any old crap at times, not mention iTunes. Then a few feet away I have my 360 staring at me, tempting me with it's High-Def ways. Plus tonight there's one of our cats moaning to go out when it's raining outside (he hates the rain usually) so he's in and out like a Jack-in-the-Box!

Yet the daft thing is, when I get to the end of eahc lesson and do teh summary (without cheating may I add ;) ) I find myself actually remembering stuff. Now for a guy who fucking hated education by the time I came to the end of A-Levels (the actual reason why I never went to Uni, but there were also some others that happened within 12 months of that time, which I might share one day) this is quite surprising. Not to mention almost liberating in a really odd way; in a way that I now think I actually can learn new tricks, a concept that hadn't really proved itself till now. The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is starting to grow a bit. Now all I have to do is pass the course and get myself into something I actually want to do in work! 'All', ha, as if it's just a five minute do!

Moral? Simple one really.

If you think you really can't do something, tell yourself to wake up, get your arse in gear and go fucking do it! It really is that easy. Take that mindset, then the research into what you want, how you get it etc. isn't a chore, it's a pleasure, a start on your journey to getting what you want, whatever it is.

You ever get that feeling where you start to think that maybe, just maybe, this is the point where things begin to change for the better?

Current Tunes

As I've been sitting here typing this, iTunes has chucked up a few surprises for me. Namely Breakdown by Guns n Roses, Chances by Athlete, and The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve. Quite apt I'd say given my current state of mind and how I'm looking at life at the moment, although the last one isn't the literal meaning some of you may be thinking. Again maybe I'll explain it one day, when a certain date comes round, but those of you who know me well enough will probably get it.

Current Games

Well, same as last time really. Far Cry is getting to the point where suddenly the difficulty ramps up and the bastards become crack shots over night! I still can't believe how much I'm enjoying it though, given my initial reservations. But I said all I had to about this one last time so I won't bore you again.

Staying on gaming though, it seems that the war of words, or willy-waving as I prefer to call it, between the execs of the big three (well it seems to be more Ninty and Sony atm, given Microsoft already have there console out). Despite the 'your console is crap', 'you're charging too much money', 'your machine isn't next gen', and 'what the fuck is that controller!' most of it can be ignored.

Why?

Marketing spin. Marketing people love nothing more than outlandish statements to build into a campaign but it's all more tightly controlled than you think. Quotes and stuff like that are very rarily leaked, especially when the content of them is ott in one way or the other. Oh what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in the various corporate boardrooms of these guys!

I, like many of you, only give a crap about what a console does when it's sat in my house, connected to a TV with a game running in it. Then I'll make my mind up, not when some suited gimp tells me X is better than Y.

*gets off soapbox*

Right that's it for now, I'm off to cap somebodies ass in Far Cry to a Jimi Hendrix soundtrack. You should try it sometime, bit of an Apocalypse Now moment, except without the cow slaughtering, or nutter army officers and armed locals..........

Until next time!

*walks away from keyboard* 'Cap sombodies ass'....where the fuck did I get that from!?!?!
